Welcome to Perceptual Motion

Rob Whalley

This is a very quick replacement for the site which I noticed had gone down on the 20th January 2008 (except the gallery which runs on a different database). I have no idea what's happened to Joomla, which was the Content Management System (CMS) I was using... It either broke or got hacked.

Fortunately I'm not too upset about it, I've been meaning to go back to hand coding my site because it engages my enthusiasm more, plus I've been playing with Linux systems a lot more the last few months so I'm going to be using a different set of tools to recreate the site. I started coding this site using Quanta Plus, but now I'm using Bluefish, which isn't WYSIWYG, but is damn good.

I also managed to rescue the original site blurb from the Joomla based site, so here it is:

"Well, if you're here you've found your way onto my little corner of the interweb - you lucky people! Perceptual Motion is the domain of one Rob Whalley (that's me) who can usually be found either working or in the pub, but every so often I venture out onto the World Wide Web for fun and frolics...

Originally, this site was going to provide links to free software, which I suppose I'll get around to doing sometime soon - also that's where the weird name came from. The idea was to persuade people not to pay for expensive software that's often perceived to be better than stuff you can get for free. Hence, Perceptual Motion - changing perceptions, see? (well it made sense at the time... and it's too late to change it now - although robwhalley.co.uk also works for this site if you hadn't already guessed!). Shortly into it's life the website also became home to a forum that was mostly centred around making modifications to a PC game called Morrowind. That forum has now moved home to Calislahn's website, and can be found at: http://perceptual.calislahnsmods.co.uk

So what now for this site? Well, I'm going to shift the focus onto personal subjects, such as music, maybe a few photo galleries, the usual sort of thing! Anyway, we'll see.

Thanks for looking in on the site. Rob."
